Horses in whispering world's Herd

Whispering World's herd is a mix of mares and geldings of various breeds, types, colours, ages and sizes who enjoy as natural a life as possible for domesticated animals. Unlike horses who might be turned out daily in the same field, the Herd is a fully integrated ‘family’ unit and as such offer unique insights into relationship dynamics, communication and lifestyle that are difficult to observe other than in wild or semi-wild situations.

Sterling Prospect – Q
20 year old ex-racing Thoroughbred gelding
First of the Herd to arrive at ten years of age. Riding Club, hacking all-rounder who was found to have rotation in both front feet and with horn quality that wouldn’t hold a shoe inspite of feed balancers and other off the shelf supplements given to improve. Advised to limit turnout or put to sleep. Solution – temporarily retire, change environment, transition to barefoot, change of job. Ten years on, happy, healthy, head of the Herd and rideable. Has worked with hundreds of people in new role.

Glendara - Glen
Seven year old ex-racing Thoroughbred gelding
Glen’s owner ensured he received excellent conventional care and rehabilitation with no expense spared but eventually was advised by Trainer and Vet that the horse would never come right and would be best off being put to sleep. A few days before his appointment with the Vet, Glen was reprieved when offered a place on Helen’s yard. Glen was found to have a colonic ulcer, tendon starin, hind fetlock/ligament injury unhealed, muscular tightness and spasm, unbalanced feet with no heel, multiple stable-vices. Eight months later Glen was free of stable vices, eating normally, had gained weight, the swelling on his injury greatly reduced, tendon soreness gone and was enjoying his countryside hacking and dressage.

Crystal Mystic - Misty
Seven year old ex-racing Thoroughbred gelding
At the end of a successful racing career Misty was found a new home. Soon after, he experienced lameness and hoof problems which his owners would strived to resolve with vet and farrier, only to find they returned when the horse started work. His lameness was serious, he could barely walk and had difficult standing, there appeared to be little hope that he would ever come sound so the decision was made to put him to sleep. Six months after arriving on Helen’s yard Misty was enjoying his gallops on the local common.

Jack
11 year old Warmblood / Thoroughbred cross gelding
General all-rounder who arrived as a confinement phobic three year old and who, together with Q, has worked with hundreds of people from across the world. A cheeky character who is incredibly relaxed with people and enjoys his role as an ‘equine educator’. He is particularly ‘talkative’ in terms of his Body Language and in this way operates at an advanced level.

Apollo
5 year old Belgian Cob gelding
Placid youngster who is learning the ropes as an equine educator and will in addition be working with the disabled in ridden capacity

Petal
10 year old Arabian / Cob cross mare
Super sensitive mare bought from a market at the age of 6 she arrived with behavioural problems, a deep distrust of people and an aversion to being caught. Within two years she had become a priceless member of the ‘equine educator’ team. Very relaxed and a specialist in helping people explore and develop trust of people and of horses.

Twinkle
17 year old Native / Draught cross mare
A mare who arrived 3 years ago and who had spent most of her life living in a field with minimal people contact. Hugely distrustful of people and any kind of handling she is a valuable member of the ‘equine education’ team

Amber 8 year old Welsh Cross mare
